Deadlock’s Ranks Have Been Wildly Improved Post Update

DeadlockTracklockMonday, October, 20, 2025

On Friday 10/10/25, the rank badge calculations changed from static skill ranges to a percentile system. Instead of basing it on an arbitrary number set by Valve behind the scenes, your rank badge now reflects how you compare to the rest of the playerbase.

Some players were concerned that the change would place them into tougher matches. However, this adjustment shouldn’t impact matchmaking. It only affects how your badge is calculated, while your underlying matchmaking skill rating, or “real MMR” as some call it, remains unchanged after the update.

Even if the change impacted matchmaking, you should still face players of similar skill levels. If your rank has increased, the ranks of players at your skill level have likely increased too. Essentially, you’ll be competing against the same players as before, just at a higher rank.
